Feel ● Timing ● Balance
Clinic Series
A Three Part Series

Defining Horsemanship - At the J-K Ranch

We will define each of the three essential horsemanship qualities separately and later bring them together to develop harmony and finesse throughout our horsemanship.  You will become more connected mentally and physically with your horse through greater understanding of what Feel, Timing, and Balance means in your horsemanship and why these qualities are so important to developing natural skills with your training and riding.

Schedule:  These are 2-day clinics beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. Plan to join us for potluck dinners and for the camaraderie hour before dinner with a little music by the bonfire.

Fees:  The Feel, Timing, and Balance Series...$750.

Arrival/Departure Times:  We welcome you to come in Friday before the clinic and stay Sunday evening to not feel rushed.

Accommodations:  You are welcome to stay in your self-contained vehicle at no charge or stay in the Ranch House...$25/person.

Board/Horses:  Pens for horses are $10 per night, per horse...bring your own feed.

Trail Ride after the clinic:  Each Monday after the clinic, we offer a day of trail riding for those who would like to stay and practice with purpose...$50.

Feel
Feel is the most essential quality of horsemanship.  Our goal is to not "teach feel", which is nearly impossible anyway, but to help you understand what "feel" means to your horse and to your horsemanship.  We don't want you to confuse feel with "feelings".  Emotions are a part of horsemanship but emotion is different than feel.  We want to learn how our expression, focus, contact, reflection, collection, support, position, and awareness are all about feel.  Learn how to feel of  our horses and how they feel of us.

Timing
The second essential quality of horsemanship is Timing.  Great skills and technique are all about timing.  Learn about when to quit doing what you are doing at the right time.  Timing is when to ask more or when to do less.  Timing is critical to Pressure and Release.  We need to know how to change the amount of pressure and develop a sense of Timing for when to make adjustments.  This session on Timing will help you and your horse better handle obstacles, crossing water, trailer loading, other challenging situations with calmness and understanding.

Balance
The third essential quality of horsemanship is...Balance.  Our goal for this third session is to achieve Balance between you and your horse mentally, emotionally, and physically.  Feel and Timing create a sense of Balance.  Being out of Balance for you or your horse is not comfortable.  Without Balance, there is no Harmony.  In this session we will discover how important balance is in all areas of horsemanship.  Our goal is to help you and your horse become more balanced and for you to understand how to be more effective through Balance.  When you are in Balance and your horse is in Balance you will ask less and get more.

Our work will focus in part on the horse's form and function.  Balance affects how he carries himself.  Straightness, suppleness and evenness allow the horse to be in Balance.  We will help you with your seat and hands, posture, and position.

●Each clinic weekend will include experiential learning exercises, games, discussion, and time for reflection.

This is a clinic series designed for people who want more from
themselves, more from their horse, and
more from their investment.
